新头足纲（学名：Neocephalopoda）是一组头足纲的软体动物，包括有鞘形亚纲和鞘形亚纲所有生物，包括所有头足纲内所有已灭绝、但比较接近鞘形亚纲的物种；比较接近鹦鹉螺亚纲的，则被归类到旧头足纲（Palcephalopoda）^[1]。目前地位未定。从今日的角度来看，新旧头足纲的分别很明显，但若我们单单从新头足纲的化石去看，就可以看到当中的转变。

历史[编辑]

这个新的分类于1980年由 Lehmann & Hillmer 提出，当时叫作“新头足下纲”，包括有菊石亚纲（Ammonoidea）、杆石亚纲（Bactritoidea）及鞘形亚纲（Coleoidea）。不过这种分类很明显的违反了林奈的分类法，因此把分类提升。新头足纲又名“窄齿舌纲”（Angusteradulata），因为当Lehmann在1967年发现菊石亚纲生物化石的齿石跟现在的鞘形亚纲非常相像，在每排齿舌均有七颗牙和两颗边牙，所以把他们归类为“窄齿舌纲”；而鹦鹉螺亚纲的其他成员，均有九颗牙和四颗边牙，则归入“阔齿舌纲”（Lateradulata）^[2]。
